The UHI Rebel Fund

Have you got an idea that will help the planet? The UHI Rebel Fund could help you make it real.

What’s the UHI Rebel Fund?

The UHI Rebel Fund will award £2,500 maximum to one UHI student or group of students to run a project that will make things better for people and the planet at UHI or in the local community.

It could be something small and practical, or something creative and awareness raising – anything that will help push for change and support sustainability. We’re looking for ideas that will challenge how things are usually done.

You don’t need to be an expert or have it all figured out – you just need to have a great idea and the passion to make it happen.

Who can apply? content

Who can apply?

Who can apply?

Any UHI student can apply – from any course or UHI partner. You can apply on your own or as a group.

You’ll just need someone from UHI (like a tutor or lecturer) to support your project. If you’re not sure who to ask, that’s totally fine, we can help you with that.

  • Link to at least one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Run between January and May 2026

Here are some example ideas:

  • A clothes swap or second-hand pop-up
  • A community garden or composting project
  • A podcast or short video series on sustainability topics
  • A workshop on climate wellbeing or fast fashion
  • A bike repair event
  • A zero-waste starter kit for students

Basically, if your project helps tackle environmental or social issues and it gets others thinking or acting differently, we’d love to hear about it.
