Biography

Franklyn is the Clinical Simulation Suite Manager at the University of the Highlands and Islands, where he leads the development of clinical skills education and simulation-based learning. He has more than 19 years of nursing experience, beginning his career in critical care settings such as cardiac intensive care and surgical high-dependency units, and specialising as an ECMO Nurse Specialist.

His move into education began as a Resuscitation Trainer and Officer at Raigmore Hospital, where he designed and delivered training across a wide range of clinical areas. Since joining UHI in 2020, Franklyn has overseen the refurbishment of the Clinical Simulation Suite and introduced simulated based learning to support nursing students in practice-ready learning.

Franklyn holds a Bachelor of Nursing from Glasgow Caledonian University and is currently completing a PgCert in Tertiary and Higher Education. He is an active member of the Association for Simulation in Healthcare (ASPiH) and has collaborated with VR HIVE to integrate virtual reality into healthcare education.

His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including clinical skills, simulation design and facilitation, advanced clinical assessment, and Resuscitation Council courses. He also serves as a Personal Academic Tutor, supporting students throughout their studies.
