Biography

Judith joined UHI in 2018 to help create and establish the optometry department. Prior to this Judith worked extensively across the optometry sector, with experience of community practice (both independent and multiple), independent prescribing, domiciliary care, supervision of pre-registration students and diabetic retinal screening.

The majority of Judith’s career to date, however, has been spent with the NHS, working in specialist clinics including paediatrics, cataract pre and post – op care, low vision, corneal clinics, retinal clinics and glaucoma diagnosis and management.

Judith has taught, supervised and mentored students from various disciplines.

Judith is interested in education and learning within optometry and other clinical disciplines, with particular interest in the pedagogies of problem-based learning, team-based learning and small group teaching.

Teaching

Judith teaches across the MOptom and BSc Optometry programmes, with particular emphasis on clinical skills, ocular anatomy and physiology, and communication skills.
